John Smilie
...was one of the hundreds who were the supporting cast of the names we know as the Founding Fathers. We cobble together the pieces of history that remain to tell the story of a young Ulster Irish lad who immigrated to colonial America, who took up the cause of Liberty and spent his life in service in the new governments of Pennsylvania and the United States. Biographic material has been previously published in monographs, book chapters, and commentary in biographies of others, some accurate while some not. We intend to accurately detail his story in the context of the young Republic along side the likes of Franklin, Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton and other prominent names of our American history books. In addition to telling the story of John Smilie as an historic figure for public knowledge, we endeavor to gather his descendants and to tell his story to his posterity.
