Lorelyn "Lori" Kay Smilie (1952-2007) 
Lori was born in Denver, CO. She attended public schools in Colorado Springs, CO, and graduated in 1970 from Arapaho High School in Centennial, CO. She graduated from Ottawa University in 1974 with a degree in elementary education.
She began her teaching career in the fall of 1974 at Wellsville Elementary School, where she taught third grade for more than 32 years. She enjoyed music, movies, books, literature and art.
She was a member of the National Education Association, Kansas National Education Association, Wellsville Educators Association, and was involved in the development of the Franklin County Literature Festival.
